Nestled in a valley on Nui Dinh mountain, Phat Quang Monastery has long been a familiar spiritual refuge for countless Buddhist practitioners and visitors from near and far. Founded by Venerable Thich Chan Quang on what was once untamed land in 1992, it has grown into a center for practice, dharma propagation, moral education, and community service with far-reaching influence both domestically and internationally.
Beyond being a place for worship, sutra recitation, and meditation practice, Phat Quang Monastery serves as an environment for training monastics, educating youth, building practice communities, and carrying out numerous charitable activities for society.
Venerable Thich Chan Quang – Founder
Inseparable from the formation and growth of Phat Quang Monastery is Venerable Thich Chan Quang — a monk who has devoted more than four decades to the path of practice, dharma propagation, and education.
With the aspiration to bring the Buddha's teachings into everyday life, the Venerable consistently emphasizes the role of ethics, the spirit of service, and responsibility to the community. Beyond propagating Buddhist teachings, he encourages study, scientific research, music, foreign languages, and technology to enhance one's capacity to serve society.
Over 2,000 dharma topics, more than 200 original songs, and numerous works of compilation, Vietnamization, and translation of sutras and liturgical music have helped spread the values of ethics, love of country, and noble ideals to generations of Buddhist practitioners.

Each year, Phat Quang Monastery solemnly organizes the Festival of the Buddha's Birth, Ullambana (Filial Piety), the Buddha's Enlightenment, and many other cultural and spiritual events, drawing tens of thousands of attendees.
These festivals are not merely occasions to commemorate the great milestones of the Buddha's life — they are also environments for moral education, cultivating filial respect, gratitude, civic responsibility, and love of homeland. Alongside traditional ceremonies are dharma talks, group meditation, edifying arts and cultural programs, and meaningful community activities.
Phat Quang Martial Arts
Founded at Thien Ton Phat Quang in 1992, Phat Quang Martial Arts is a style carrying the philosophy of "learning the Dharma hand-in-hand with learning martial arts," with ethics as its foundation and service to humanity as its ideal.
Practitioners are trained not only in physical fitness, martial arts, and qigong, but also in character development, a sense of responsibility, compassion, and community service. Over more than three decades of growth, Phat Quang Martial Arts has spread to many localities, contributing to the formation of people who are physically healthy, mentally resilient, and idealistic in how they live.
Phat Quang Practice Community
Alongside the development of Phat Quang Monastery, the Phat Quang Practice Communities (Dao Trang) have formed across many provinces, becoming an environment for Buddhist study and moral cultivation for a wide community of practitioners.
Community activities include worship, sutra recitation, sitting meditation, dharma study, qigong practice, and Phat Quang Martial Arts. Alongside these practices, members actively participate in charitable work, environmental protection, and many community service activities.
For many people, the practice community is not only a place to study Buddhism, but also a shared home of fellowship — a place where everyone supports and accompanies one another on the path of character refinement.
Phat Quang Buddhist Youth
Established in 2008, Phat Quang Buddhist Youth is an environment for study, training, and service for the younger generation.
Alongside worship, meditation, and dharma study, youth members are also trained in life skills, martial arts, foreign languages, music, communications, and a sense of social responsibility. They actively participate in serving Buddhist festivals, meditation retreats, environmental protection activities, humanitarian blood drives, and many other volunteer programs.
From this environment, many young people have matured into productive citizens who live with ideals and a sense of responsibility toward their communities and their country.
International Friends at Phat Quang Monastery
In recent years, an increasing number of international visitors have come to Phat Quang Monastery to learn about meditation, Buddhist teachings, and Vietnamese culture.
Coming from many nations, cultures, and beliefs, they meet around a shared desire to find inner peace and enduring ethical values in life. Many have participated in meditation sessions, explored the Law of Cause and Effect, and experienced the serene way of life within the monastery gates.
These encounters not only help international friends gain a deeper understanding of Buddhism and Vietnamese culture, but also contribute to building friendship, respect, and connection among peoples on the foundation of compassion and the aspiration toward goodness.
Summer Ethics Program – Nurturing the Next Generation
Inspired by the aspiration to help build a generation of young people with ethics, ideals, and responsibility toward their homeland, Phat Quang Monastery has for many years organized Summer Ethics Courses for adolescents and youth.
The courses combine character education, life skills, physical training, and spiritual life. Through lessons on filial respect, patriotism, the law of karma, community responsibility, and a wholesome lifestyle, participants are equipped with positive life values to move confidently into the future.
Beyond receiving knowledge, students also engage in meditation, qigong, martial arts, group activities, and the cultivation of self-reliance. Many parents have noted positive changes in their children after each program.
Phat Quang Charity Association
The Phat Quang Charity Association is a bridge of love, uniting the collective efforts of Buddhist practitioners at home and abroad to carry out charitable activities, social welfare, and support for the Triple Gem.
Over the years, the Association has implemented many meaningful programs — supporting people in poverty, students in difficult circumstances, communities in remote areas, the "Help Each Other Earn a Living" initiative, the "Old Items – Connecting Love" project, and many other community support activities.
Alongside charitable work, the Association also actively accompanies practice retreats, meditation courses, moral education programs, and dharma propagation activities across the country, helping to spread the spirit of compassion and social responsibility among Buddhist practitioners.
